Prologue
 December 25 2011

In this world, there exist certain things incapable of being understood by the mundane domain. There are just things we must never know and mustn’t see. They have their own society and have been living alongside with us longer than anyone can think of time.
Just like this quite town in the middle of nowhere in Russian snow fields. It’s a secluded town for special beings who likes to seclude their self in the eyes of modern world.
It was Christmas Eve that day and they ought to celebrate with their friends and family but everyone was gone. Only two of them remained. They’re both out of breath but they must keep running because they want to live. And if they stop for even a split second, they’ll die. If they’re a normal human they are probably dead by now.
The two silhouettes ran as fast as they can. It was full moon and the sky is clear and everything is silver white. The snow is sparkling like endless stars and when you look afar at the silhouettes they looked like a wolf running in the dead winter.
It was a 14 years old girl with red hair and dark eyes and a 15 years old boy with silver hair and red eyes. Both have angelic face especially the boy. Even though they look tired and dreadful for they have been running for hours now, you can still see how beautiful these two creatures are. The girl’s left hand is holding tight to the boy’s right hand. In normal situation the boy will blush in blissful happiness for he had a very deep affection at the girl but there’s no time for romantic stuffs right now. Both can’t still recover at the tragedic event that happened a few hours ago.
A few hours ago……..
Everyone in the village is preparing for the annual Christmas ball. These creatures have one thing in common, all of them have silver hair and red eyes and there’s not a single creature whose face is not angelic. It’s like living in a doll house and the atmosphere is steam-punk style.
Children are running all around with blissful smiles on their faces and holding some chocolates and cookies given by the passer by neighbours. Couples are walking all around the street looking for perfect dress and suit to wear for the Christmas ball. And the adults putting decorations at the plaza and some are preparing the foods. Everyone knew each other and the population is only a hundred. To be exact it had a population of 132. This town is perfect. But as they say, nothing is perfect and permanent.
A few feet away from the village, a red haired girl is picking wild strawberries near the forest. She was the only person in this town who’s different from the others. And because of that she was treated very differently so being alone became her habit.
“If you don’t attend the Party I won’t dance with everyone.” said the 15 years old boy. He was acting like a spoiled brat and has been pestering the girl to come with him and dance at the party.
“I don’t belong there just go by yourself. You’re the prince so I’m sure all the girls would be willing to die just to dance with you.” She shrugged.
“But I don’t want them. I only want you!” he shouted before he can stop the words from flowing out of his mouth.
She looked at him with her usual poker face and he was red in the face. He was blushing very hard and his heart beats faster and faster as she stared. He was panicking inside his mind wandering if the girl found out his feelings because of what he had said. Any normal thinking creature would get the meaning behind those words but she doesn’t. She was not dumb or stupid; in fact she’s one of the higher ranking knights responsible for protecting the young prince. It was never easy to be a knight. One must have wisdom and strength. It’s very rare for a girl to become a knight at a very young age. She was a prodigy but she was simply lacking common sense when it comes to romantic stuffs.
“Aish. You won’t stop pestering me right?” she said. She was annoyed and amused at the same time. The boy said nothing still blushing and he just nods at her.
“Fine, but promise me you won’t leave my side. You know I hate events and parties. And I don’t have a single friend to talk there. So you must definitely never leave me. Else I’ll look like a wallflower at the side.” She joked.
The boy smiled at her and muttered, “Forever.”
“Oh, you definitely look like an angel when you smile. How lucky you’re bride will be. She will have a husband more beautiful than her.” She smiled and teased him.
The boy can’t stop blushing and he wanted to tell her so badly that it will be her but it’s too early to propose. So he just said, “I’m not beautiful, I’m handsome.”
Heh, whatever you say.” She said as they walk towards the town and keep teasing each other like they usually did when they’re alone. Until they’re out of sight and the sky turned red in the town. The sun had set down. It was night time and a few more hours before everything ends.
The castle lies in front of the plaza, and its wide doors are open. Inside, the foods are serve by the local adults. Then the outside was decorated in a very fairy tale style. Everything is shining and there’s a touch of elegancy on it. The park, also the town’s garden and the roses that bloom in the winter added a romantic decoration. There are also fireflies everywhere. At the side, benches were place so anyone can sit when they’re tired of dancing and standing. Also the sky was clear and the moon looks like it’s giving its blessing to the town. No one can forget the moon at that day for it was the most beautiful decoration of all. Around it was a rainbow light called the winter Halo.
Inside the castle, the prince was getting ready. He was wearing a black suit bought in the modern world. He’s the most handsome there for he’s the prince and he’s proud of it. Even the king is very proud of him. He’s the only child of the king and the next to the throne.
One day on his 15th birthday the king asked him what would he want to get for his 16th birthday. 16 is the age where they would be considered as adult, the age where one would have to take his life responsibilities. And the one thing he only wants is to marry Lucy, the red haired girl. The king is delighted by that. That girl is special that’s why she’s different. And today would be the day they would announce their engagement. He hasn’t told her about it because it’s a surprised and a birthday present. He never thought the possibility of rejection because everyone dreamt of marrying the prince so he’s sure she will be glad. And both of them are childhood friends, or so he thought.
There’s a slight knock on his bedroom while he’s deep in thoughts. He stared at the mirror for a minute fixing his silver hair before he said come in to whoever is knocking. It’s Lucy, wearing a white gown. It’s open in the back and her shoulder is visibly open. The gown ends at her knees and its end had cute frills on it. It’s simple yet elegant. It suits her red hair and she’s wearing a gold gladiator flat heel like the angels use to wear. At her sight, he’s out of breath for a moment staring at her with intense amusement.
“Uhmm….was it weird? I look like an idiotic red headed moron right? I’ll change so wait for me.”
“No! Wait! Don’t!” he said before she leaves.
“What?”
“You’re beautiful.”
“What’s with that are you mocking me?” She teased.
“No! Really I’m serious.”
“Ok if you say so and sorry barging in your room but I can’t go by myself downstairs its so embarrassing.” She said as she absentmindedly phased around the room.
“Don’t freak out.”
“I’m just nervous that’s all.”
“Heeh you’re so childish.” He chuckled and smiled at her. Let’s go downstairs. I’ll escort you tonight and don’t ever leave my side and never talk to other guys. Got it?
She looked at him wide eye. “Sometimes I wonder how old you are, tell me you’re a hundred years already right? I knew it confess it already.” She teased.
“Oh come on stop being silly. And just few more years I’ll be taller than you and I’ll be the most handsome man you’ve ever met. You’ll even drool when you look at me.” He teased.
“Eew, I won’t drool at you remember that.”
“Just wait and see.” He said with full confidence.
As they walk towards the light, the party has already started. It’s the grandest party of the town and everyone looked like dancing angels. Music consumed the place with harmonious melody, the sound of violins, a lady playing the piano and an Orchestra. Fireworks are being displayed non-stop. Everything has a slight touch of magic in it.
Where’s the Ramen?” Lucy said with a disappointing tone.
“Silly it’s Christmas. Seriously, you’re the only person I know who talks a lot about Ramen.” He teased.
“Speaking of foods, do you know they serve spicy noodles in New Year’s Eve in some Asian countries? Ramen is the best food I’ve ever tasted.” She said in delight and her eyes are sparkling. She really has the brightest smile, he thought.
This is one of his favourite things about her. She always talked things about Asia. She knows they culture, they’re foods, and some of their language. When she talks about it, it feels like she’s been there. But he knew that she only learned it from reading mangas and watching anime.
“You said it to me more than a hundred times already.” He teased.
“Tsk, just you wait you’ll definitely know the things I’m talking about someday. I like sushi too, especially the spicy one.” She said smiling like a child.
“I know what you’re talking about. I’m always there when you watch anime all day, remember?”
“But it’s different when you experienced them.” She said and regretted what she just blurted out.
“Have you?” he said raising his eyebrows.
“Hey do you want to dance?” she asked him so he would forget the silly questioned he just asked.
He didn’t reply instead he grabbed her hands and he put it in his shoulders. The lively party suddenly went mellow. The orchestra started playing a romantic music. And just like magic, the light went a little dimmer. The night is getting heavy and it was time for the couple dance. All around the place couples are dancing sweetly together even adults and kids. In the middle of it were the two lovely creatures, the prince and his beloved dancing slowly.
He was looking at her with full affection; wandering about their future together. He knew her like no one does. He knew everything about her, her bad habits, her addiction to anime and readings, her bipolar moods, and all about the things that’s either good or bad. And he just simply loved all of it. But he doesn’t know what she thinks about him.
She was looking in a distant while they dance. Her mind was somewhere far away like it usually did. She was a daydreamer and her mind has a habit of wandering when it feels like it. And just like a wild animal she can feel the change in the winds. Something is coming she can feel it, something very dangerous. She was scared and she can’t hide it. There was really something wrong, but what?
“What’s wrong?” he asked her because he can see that she was scared of something.
“We need to find the king. Something is coming.” She said in a calm dead tone. She had that poker face again. He can tell that there’s something wrong so without saying anything he grabbed her hand tightly and they walked out of the crowd to look for the king.
They did find him immediately afterwards. He was a tall man with broad shoulders. He’s the kind of person you’ll respect the moment you see him. And he was standing near the door drinking some red wine. He was looking at the party with a proud smile. When he saw the two silhouettes coming towards him his smile grew bigger. He can tell immediately who it is.
“Hey there you two young lovebirds. Are you enjoying the evening?” He said proudly.
“They’re coming.” Without further ado she said it in a concerned tone. “They’re dangerous. There will be blood everywhere. We need to get everyone safe. It will be dangerous out there.”
There was no second thought, he believed her, he always had. There was a dark emotion in his face like he was thinking of something. The proud looking King earlier became an avenging angel. He’s clenching his fist so hard that blood starting to run in it.
“Father,” The prince said concerned.
Just a few seconds after she told her to get everyone safe, before they can do something about it, an explosion was heard. And lots of scream scattered everywhere. The elegant party was now burning with fire and explosions were everywhere. The happy children walking earlier was now crying and calling their mother. Blood was spilled around the road. And the beautiful moon earlier now had a red colour, still with its winter halo as red as blood. It looked like its laughing, mocking them.
Shit!” Lucy shouted, with a terrified expression in her face.
“Damnit! Lucy, get the prince out of here. No matter what happened you two must survived.” The king said in a serious tone. Lucy just nod. She was still shocked. But she didn’t cry. She never cries.
“But father! I can’t leave you alone.” The prince said in a desperate tone. He was brave enough, wanting to fight beside his father to protect this town of theirs.
“No! You must live. Always remember that I love you my son. I knew you’re mother in heaven would protect us. Now go! Use the secret tunnel under the king’s throne; it will lead you to the forest. Run as fast as you can.” He said and stopped for a moment hesitating to say something. “And Lucy, it’s time.” She understood the meaning behind those words. She knew what will happen to her and she has to be brave.
May the angel guide you on your journey.” He said smiling but with all the sadness in his heart. And then he rushed towards the chaos with his great sword in his hands. That’s when they both realized, the king planned to die there, protecting everything.
“May the angel be with you too, father.” He said with tears in his eyes. And both of them run. Run without stopping. Run towards nothingness.
It was like hell. The king thought. He was fighting hundreds of soldiers. They’re like robot automation but they’re not powered by electricity. It was powered by alchemy. They’re throwing flames everywhere, magic flames that can’t be killed by water.
“Well, well, it’s the mighty king. Aren’t you going to flee? Your majesty.” said by the shadow that suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
“What’s this? Are you trying to erase us?” The king who’s full of bruises and blood said proudly.
No. Oh by the way I made those soldiers. Aren’t they cute?” He laughed with full darkness in it.
“Why!? Haven’t you have enough power?! Why are you doing this? Revenge?” the king said in a mad tone. And the villain just laughed.
“I just came here for one purpose.” He said to him smiling so evilly. “To retrieve what’s mine and to destroy.”
“She’s not yours, you had no right for her.”
“I need your son too. They’re a pair you know that.” He smiled at him.
“No! You’ll die here! Don’t ever touch them!”
“You can’t. I’m stronger than you.” He just laughed and when the king was about to slash him blue sparkles came out of the villains hand and put it in the king’s chest. His blood spilled everywhere.
After that, there’s nothing for him anymore. It’s the king’s last breath. And his last thought was Lucy and Zach.
The two silhouettes running at the forest never stop. Their lives are far more important than the rest of the village but they’re not aware of that.
Lucy was out of breath already and she didn’t notice the small wood so she tripped on it. The impact was strong and the wood shattered. They finally stopped running. She was bruised and had lots of blood with her.
“Damnit!” The prince said in a mad tone. She just laughed at him. And he was startled. He was shocked that he can’t bear to give her any response.
“You sound like your father.” She said finally in tears. She was crying and laughing at the same time. And you can see the sadness in her eyes. Just like him she was lost. They don’t know what they would do from now on.
From the corner of her eyes she saw a shadow. It’s in a shape of a snake. And it passed her by so fast that they didn’t even notice it’s gone and Lucy was bleeding. Her blood soaked the snow crystal. It was sparkling red. Like a gemstone.
“No!!” The prince said panicking.
She smiled at him sadly. She realized what’s happening to her. The poison was slowly spreading inside her. The prince snapped. His eyes glow redder. He’s gone mad. He was slashing anything he saw moving.
“Zac! Stop!” Lucy shouted with all her remaining force. She coughed a lot of blood as a result. And he snapped back to his senses. He rushed towards her moving faster than the wind. He held her body with his both hands. Caressing her like a fragile little doll.
“Lucy please don’t leave me. Please. I love you Lucy please wake up.” He was crying like a lost child and she was very still with her eyes close. She smiled with her last remaining breathe, and the last words she said to her before she died was, “I’ll come back for you Zach.”

Then she was gone.
