Noir - Chapter 1

This is only a draft so there might be some typo or grammatical error. And the story might change later.

Chapter1
 February 2014

“That’s my yogurt!” Aeros yelled when he saw Lucy eating it.
“It doesn’t have your name on it.” She rolled her eyes to him.
Riel is silently watching them in amusement. It’s been a week since they brought this girl to The Vortex. It’s a foundation for special beings. Those beings that secretly co-exist with humans lives here. This is the world of the unknown, a very dangerous world that humans can’t see.
“It’s time.” Riel reminded Lily.
“Aish. It’s another effing examination.” She frowned.
They all walk side by side with Lily in the middle. They were assigned to guard her until she’s clear of any investigation. As they walk through the hallways, Lily devours everything she sees. This place never fails to amuse her. It’s a very old castle with a town below and a big palette of natures, it’s creepy and mysterious. And she really likes it. She wonders if they would let her live here after all this investigation about her. She wanted to stay so badly. She’s just a normal girl last week but now she has nowhere to go.
“Just tell us already you’re an alien.” Aeros said.
“I really wanted to punch this guy.” She stated.
Before Aeros can say his punch line a beautiful mid-twenties blue haired lady in a lab coat greeted them.
“You’re late.” She sighed. “You two wait outside.”
“K.” Aeros shrugged.
“You’ll be fine.” Riel said to Lily when he saw that she’s fidgeting. They both built a friendly relationship these past few days and he can tell immediately both her mood and what she feels. Though he wanted it to be more than friends, he doesn’t want to complicate things. Just being near her will be bearable for him.
“Thank you.” Lily mouthed before she was shoved inside the door by the head physician named Serine.
Aeros saw the look in Riel’s eyes. It’s something he never sees before. It’s scaring the hell out of him. He doesn’t want to ruin their friendship but if he’s going to be honest to himself, Lily is slowly entering inside his heart. He tried so hard to annoy the both of them. He convinced himself that he hates her. But he didn’t know, there’s a thin line between hate and love.
Inside, Serine is getting Lily’s blood pressure. She never saw something like her before. She’s not human yet all her physical test resulted in normality. But her blood dictates different results. The other day it’s a vampire, yesterday she’s a werewolf and the first try she’s a fairy. Even though her blood has different result, her appearance is still the same. This has never happened before.
“You’ll be clear today after I get a sample of your blood.”
“Ok.” Lily shivered. She doesn’t understand why they need her blood every time she had a check-up. Syringe freak her out but it’s humiliating for her to admit it so she ignore it every time they took a sample of her DNA.
“Thanks.” She muttered.
She keeps her head up as she walks towards the door to hide her uneasiness and the after effect of the injection. Serine chuckled at her when she’s already outside. She likes that girl. She saw braveness and kindness in her eyes. She’s also quite different.
“Phew.” Lily breathed out. Her legs were shaking.
“Coward.” Aeros smirked at her.
This guy always pissed her and she doesn’t know why he hated her so much. She’s not the type to back down so they always end up throwing punch line to each other. She called him her frenemy.
“Let’s go guys. We have one more appointment.” Riel interrupted their fight.
“Where to?” Lily asked as she fasten her phase to get away from Aeros who’s a little far behind them. He’s walking slowly watching Riel and Lily talk to each other. It stings something inside him.
“Luke wanted to see you.”
“Who’s Luke?”
“The head of this place.” His face softens as he spoke about him. “He’s like a father to us.”
The three of them sat side by side at Luke’s office and as usual Lily was in the middle. The duo became a threesome. Everyone notice it and they became the gossip around, especially Lily.
A red eyed Blondie walked into the room. His presence built tension in the air. Lily gasped when she saw him. He’s a vampire, she can tell. The man’s appearance was somewhere between 20 and 30. She wanders how old this man really is.
He stops when he sees Lily. There’s recognition in his eyes. But he clears his throat and went back to his fatherly face.
“It’s finally nice to meet the talk of the town.” He teased. “I’m Luke, head of The Vortex”
“I’ve never seen a vampire before.” Lily’s thought came out loud. The three of them look at her.
“Shit did I say it aloud?” She gasped. “I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I’m really sorry.”
There’ a glint in Luke’s eyes but nobody noticed it.
“Excellent.” He murmured.
“How do you know I’m a vampire?” Luke asked him with an intense curious gaze.
“I don’t know.” She explained. “I just do. I can tell what everyone is. I thought it’s just my imagination until you guys freaked out by my unexpected loud thought just few minutes ago.”
“You know what I am?” Riel said surprised even Aeros looked surprise.
Luke laughed out loud and said, “You guys never told her about this place and what we are?”
“I’m planning to.” Riel looked at Lily and apologized with his eyes. “Aeros stopped me. He said it’s irrelevant and Lily might be a spy.”
“It is irrelevant.” Aeros shrugged. Lily rolled her eyes to him.
“You three will make a good team.” Luke teased.
“Yeah right.” Aeros snorted. “She’s a human. She can’t be here.”
“Well, about that-” He grinned.
A man suddenly enters the room. He was mid-twenties too and has the same eyes as Riel, intense just like a wolf. He’s wearing a lab coat and a thick reading glass.
“Sorry I’m late.” He muttered.
“Hey uncle. How have you been?” Riel greeted the new man and bump fist with him. Lily’s eyes widen. So that’s why they resembled each other, she thought.
“Just like usual.” He shrugged. “Annoying and busy.”
“Lily this is Shiki, head of the research department.” Luke cleared his throat.
“Oh, uhmm, nice to meet you.” She greeted shyly and Aeros snorted. She gave him a deathly glare. Shiki seemed amused with their friendly relationship and they remind him of a blue haired person named Serine.
“I’m sorry if it’s rude but we checked you’re background from the day you are born Lily.” Luke cleared his throat.
“It is. But don’t worry it’s not like I’m hiding something. So what did you find out?” She said amused. She never thought that a choice can change her life drastically. That night when she’s just a normal person living in a certain island, she made a choice that led her here.
“You’re history is cleared and it’s clean. You’re just a normal human being.” Shiki stated and puts her files (all her files from birth certificate to his latest report card) and her pictures at Luke’s desk. She had no idea how they obtained it.
“Nice.” Riel whistled. He’s looking at her report card that have full of A+ in it.
“Told you she’s just a human.” Aeros said. “Now let’s erase her memory and send her back.” She’s terrified of what Aeros said. She doesn’t want to forget in fact she wanted to know more about this world and she loves this place. She doesn’t want to leave.
“No we can’t.” Shiki grinned. Lily smiled widely like she just won the lottery.
“But why?” Aeros said sounded pissed.
This guy really hates me, Lily realized.
“What the hell is your problem with me?” Lily hissed.
“Calm down guys.” Riel commanded his two friends and they sat silently and shut up. Shiki seemed to find something amusing but he keeps his thought to himself.
“I hate to break this to you but I think you need Lily on your team.” Luke said.
“Is that a joke?” Aeros said surprised. “You told us she’s a human. That’s against the law and she needs to take the exam first.”
“The record said she’s a human.” Shiki explained. “But her DNA doesn’t.”
“Does that mean I can stay here?” She beamed.
“Was she adopted?” Riel asked realizing it.
“Wait, what? Am I?” she asked surprised.
“Yes.” Shiki stated. “Nobody knows about that, even your parents.”
“How is that possible?” She asked confused.
“Their real children died. You’re the replacement.”
She stares at them for a moment. That explains why even though her family loves her, she feels unattached to them. That also explains why she feels different and she doesn’t feel like she belongs there. Her subconscious mind was expecting this long ago, but it still pricks in her heart.
“I feel awful for my parents. Who the hell would do that horrible thing to them? Now I feel bad for leaving them.”
“You’re supposed to feel sorry for yourself.” Riel muttered amused. He feels bad for her and she thought she might cry but she’s thinking about other people instead of her own misery.
“Don’t worry we didn’t tell them.” Shiki said.
“I’ll tell them.” She stated. All the four eyes in the room stopped and looked at her.
“You sure?” Riel asked her in concerned.
“I really feel bad for them.” She said. “Can I send them a letter?” She asked to Luke.
“You can. Just give it to me after you wrote it.” He smiled warmly at her, just like how his father smiled at her.
“Thank you.”
“So what is she?” Aeros interrupted the drama. He feels bad for her too.
“A human, a vampire, a fairy, a werewolf, a Nephilim, and a fairy.” Shiki said and they’re all staring at him wide eyes and jaw dropping and of course except for Luke who already knew the news.
“Stop joking around.” Aeros frowned.
“That’s what her blood test resulted. It changed every day.”
“That’s cool.” Riel beamed.
“Except for the fact that whatever my blood tells, I still have human capabilities.” Lily chuckled laughing at how bizarre things are going. She doesn’t even know those things existed.
“You got the point.” Shiki grinned at her. “So even though you’re cleared of suspicion we still have to examine you medically from time to time.”
“Phew. Just don’t make it every day. Yearly will be highly approved.” She said.
“Got it.” Shiki chuckled. He’s starting to like her. Serine was right, she’s an interesting person.
“So now we all come to understanding. Meeting’s adjourned.” Luke said. “And Lily, be ready for the exam. It will be Friday this week.”
“It’s three days from now.” Riel shrugged. “She won’t have time to learn.”
“It’s plenty enough.” Luke grinned.
“Yeah, it took us years.” Aeros frowned. Now he’s on Lily’s side. She really doesn’t understand him.
“It’s fine.” Lily said. “No big deal.”
“I can help you with history.” Shiki recommended.
“Thanks. I’ll think about it.”
“Now you kids go and play.” Luke shooed them.
Luke and Shiki remained inside. They still have some issues to discuss.
“Wait, where is she going to sleep?” Aeros asked. “If she’s staying we can’t have her in our room now. I’ve been sleeping in the Sofa for a week.”
“Like you’re not enjoying yourself.” Riel snorted. “You two seemed to be enjoying zombie movies together every night.”
“Jealous much?” Aeros teased. There’s a slight irritation in Riel’s face and before he can regret saying that, Lily gasped.
“Holy hell.” She stopped walking looking shock.
Riel and Aeros stopped too, looking for what made her stop. When they realized what it is, they laughed and she rolled her eyes to them in annoyance.
“Lily, that’s our dorm master.” Riel explained.
“You have Grim Reaper as the dorm master?” She asked awed.
“Meet Soul. Great great grandson of the Grim reaper.” Aeros said.
“Cool.” She said. She started walking towards him and both the boys stared at her in fear and shock.
“Hey Soul.” She greeted. “I’m Lily. It’s very nice to meet you.”
She raised her hands to him for a friendly shake but the two boys immediately rushed towards her and put her arm down.
“Sorry about that soul.” Riel apologized. “She’s new.”
He ignored them and handed Lily a key with a number and a black booklet with a white spider web design on it without touching her and then he disappeared.
“What’s with you two acting scared?” She cocked her eyebrows to them.
“We just told you he’s grim reaper great great grandson. Do you even have danger sense in your brain? He can wipe out your soul any minute and he can trace you everywhere the moment he touch you.” Riel said.
“That’s cool.” She said. “He gave me ah-”
She flipped open the booked and read the first part.
“Oh, a list of rules in the dorm. And this must be my room’s key.”
“That’s next to ours.” Aeros muttered. He doesn’t understand why he’s glad about that. He hates her.
“Let’s eat guys.” Lily said and her stomach growled. “I’ll deal with my room later.”
“Ditto.” Aeros said. And both of them race in the hallway, laughing like a five years old kid.
“Kids.” Riel muttered and laughed at them.
